CGI of how the redevelopment might look

Apex Housing Association in partnership with Urban Villages Initiative (supported by The Executive Office) and Meenan Square Developments Ltd, is bringing forward plans to develop a mixed-use development comprising a community hub, and essential local amenities

The redevelopment of Meenan Square is a multi-million-pound transformational capital project in the Derry~Londonderry Urban Village area. The aim of the scheme is to improve good relations outcomes and develop a thriving place where there has been a history of deprivation and community tension.

What is being proposed?

The proposed mixed-use regeneration scheme seeks to build:

  • a mixture of retail, commercial and community uses

  •  quality public realm and landscaping

  • an extension to Meenan Square Road to link to Westland Street, and associated parking provision.

Where is the site?

The site is located on lands to the east of Meenan Square, north of Durrow Park, west of Lecky Road and south of Westland Street and measures approximately 0.5 hectares.

The site is located in an accessible location in close proximity to the central area of Derry City. The site was formally used for a mixture of commercial uses including a public bar, bookmakers, hair salon and hot food takeaway. The former buildings on the site have since been demolished. The public street network surrounding the former commercial buildings are also within the site boundary and form part of the proposed development.
